Automotive Racing Products: George Poteet’s legendary Speed Demon 715 has recently set a new piston-engine landspeed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats of 470.015 mph. This means that the only vehicles that have gone faster were jet-powered. It also earned a record 9th Hot Rod Trophy with a top speed of 481.576 mph for the fastest speed of the meet.
The Duttweiler-built big block engine uses all ARP fasteners to generate 3,156 HP for more the 65 seconds. Car builder Maxwell Industries used ARP high-strength stainless fasteners in the frame, steering, suspension, intake and driver safety system. ARP says they’re proud to have played a part in pushing the boundaries of speed.
